Lab 2 - Compensation: From 'Nuts and Bolts' to the Sublime

C. Bruce Bagwell

Description:

The laboratory will be divided into two hands-on sections: Simulations of cytometry signal processing and multidimensional signal compensation.

A simulator will be used in laboratory to better appreciate how factors such as ADC resolution, signal crossover coefficients, and photon counting statistics affect compensation, particularly software compensation.  By understanding how these factors interrelate, it will be possible to avoid some common pitfalls associated with compensation.

In the second half, the laboratory will focus on compensation.  It begins with very simple compensation problems and slowly works towards more complex systems.

Purpose:

The purpose of the laboratory is to explore most of the major physical factors that affect compensation. The laboratory begins with first principles so those of you that are new to cytometry should get a lot out of the laboratory.
